Claremont Center for the Mathematical Sciences

Math in Industry is a week-long problem solving workshop where leading applied mathematicians, engineers and scientists from universities, industry, and research/production laboratories around the world join collaboratively to solve defined and specific problems currently facing industry.  These problems have included, but are not limited to

• engineering and product design
• process design and control
• environmental remediation
• scheduling and optimization
• financial modeling

The challenge facing business and industry is to prosper in an era of rapid technological growth. Meeting the challenge requires continually improving productivity, resource management, and innovation, both to refine existing products and processes, and to create new ones.

The Math in Industry workshop offers

• clarification and formulation of a proposed or existing process
• methods to solve problems of interest to industry
• contact with applied mathematicians and scientists from universities
• access to advanced computing solutions and environments
• cost-effective consulting
• input often reflecting ‘outside the box’ perspective

This workshop is supported by Claremont Center for Mathematical Sciences (CCMS), EcoArray, Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM), Harvey Mudd College (HMC), Center for Quantitative Life Sciences, ISI, National Science Foundation (NSF) and Oxford Centre for Collaborative Applied Mathematics (OCCAM).
