Abstract

Symmetry is ubiquitous in mathematics, illuminating structural behavior that may not be noticed otherwise.  In this talk we give three examples of the power symmetry gives us: two in uncovering combinatorial phenomena, and one in developing relatively efficient optimization algorithms.
