In the Bellman Function method promulgated in the late 90's by Nazarov, Treil, and Volberg, some guesswork, if educated, was involved in determining a majorant of the relevant Bellman function (which one generally had no hope of nding). In 2003, however, it was demonstrated by Vasyunin that there was a possibility of nding the actual Bellman function as the solution of a Monge-Ampere PDE; this technique was subsequently used to obtain sharp versions of various classical results in harmonic analysis (including the area of Muckenhoupt weights). We will give a sketch of the modi ed technique and outline some work in progress (with T. Wall) using it.
