Abstract

I hope to give a fun and easy introduction to Gromov-Witten theory, which is a love child of string theory and contemporary geometry. Born in the 80’s and experiencing tremendous growth since the 90’s, mathematical string theory and Gromov-Witten theory have revolutionized enumerative geometry and impacted fields from representation theory to combinatorics (not to mention quantum field theory and theoretical physics). I’ll hope to talk about key players, big ideas and amazing results.
