Elementary modular representation theory

This talk will discuss recent joint work with Jon Carlson, Julia Pevtsova, and Andrei Suslin. We are interested in actions of a finite group G (or similar structure) on a vector space over a field of characteristic p > 0 dividing the order of G. The special case G = Z/p is fully understood, but there is much to investigate even for G = Z/p x Z/p. Although Z/p x Z/p has "wild representation type", there are some interesting aspects of its representations (and those of more general "finite group schemes") which will be discussed.
