The Claremont Center for Mathematical Sciences was awarded $341,000 from the Fletcher Jones Foundation

Date:
October 2009

The grant supports special fellowships for graduate and undergraduate students in mathematics to study and conduct research during eight-week intensive summer sessions that could possibly be extended into senior, year-long theses. It will enable the center to pursue its important mission of promoting excellence in research and teaching in mathematics in the Claremont Colleges and in area secondary schools. “The announcement of the generous grant awarded to the Claremont Center for the mathematical Sciences by the Fletcher Jones Foundation was a special moment for an impressive group of mathematics teachers and researchers in the Claremont Colleges,” said CGU Interim President Joseph C. Hough. “It is a clear indication of the emergence of the Claremont Center as one of the largest, most important, and widely recognized math centers in the country.”
