We will introduce the concept of stable lattices, which originated in the reduction theory of algebraic groups. We will then discuss stability properties of lattices coming from ideals in quadratic number fields under the standard Minkowski embedding. The situation here turns out to be different depending on whether the field is real or imaginary.
