Abstract:

We define two families of algebras depending on a formal group law associated to an algebraic oriented cohomology theory. These recover the nil Hecke ring of Kostant and Kumar and important Hecke algebras in certain cases and yield apparently new algebras in other cases, which do not satisfy the usual braid relation, but rather a new relation which we call the ``oriented braid relation".
