Diamond-Free Subsets of Linear Lattices

Let V be a finite-dimensional vector space over a finite field, and let A, B, C, and D be subspaces of V. We say that {A, B, C, D} is a diamond if A is a subspace of both B and C which in turn are subspaces of D. What is the size of the largest collection of diamond-free subspaces of V? In this talk, I will report on the work of the Spring 2011 undergraduate Research Circle at Pomona College on this question.
