Splitting Algebras and Moebius Polynomials

Let me tell you a story about the well-loved Moebius function.  Specifically, the Moebius function of locally-finite posets. Not only does this function generalize the classical Moebius function we remember fondly from number theory.  Not only is it a rich source of information about posets.  This function also arises in the study of my favorite mathematical object: the splitting algebra!  In this talk, I will define the Moebius function and the splitting algebra, show how the Moebius function can be used to calculate the Hilbert series of the splitting algebra, and present a proposition pertinent to products of posets.
