Pomona College confers Wig Distinguished Professorship Award

The most prestigious award that Pomona College confers on members of the faculty is the Wig Distinguished Professorship Award. It is very important and valuable to faculty who are chosen.

This award was established in 1955 through an endowment generously provided by the late R. J. Wig, a long-time Trustee of Pomona College and former Chairman of the Board, and the late Anna Wig. Each spring the Wig Fund for Teaching Committee makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees, normally for up to six professors, each of whom receives an award of $7,500. The selected professors are announced at Commencement.

WIG AWARD WINNERS ARE CHOSEN PRIMARILY ON THE BASIS OF SENIOR AND JUNIOR VOTES. Therefore, the Committee seeks the nomination of up to four (4) faculty members from the attached list of eligible professors. Ballots are confidential and names are never disclosed.

Full and Associate Professors who have been on the faculty for three years and Assistant Professors, Adjunct Associate Professors, and Adjunct Full Professors who have been on the faculty for two and one-half years are eligible for awards. Furthermore, a faculty member is eligible for an award only once every five years.
