Fletcher Jones Fellowships Summer 2010

Background

The Claremont Center for Mathematical Sciences (CCMS) has been awarded funds by the Fletcher Jones Foundation to support Summer 2010 research projects. These funds allow support for three project teams, each team staffed by three Claremont undergraduate students and one CGU student. Each team project will be supervised by Claremont math faculty as follows:

  • Chain Partitions of Normalized Matching Posets, supervised by Professor Shahriar Shahriari (Pomona College)
  • Rack Module Enhancements of Counting Invariants, supervised by Professor Sam Nelson (CMC)
  • Analysis of Microfluidic Mixing in a Drop, supervised by Professors Ali Nadim (CGU) and Andrew Bernoff (HMC)

Each project will last eight weeks, June 7 – July 30, 2010 and the Fellowships carry stipends: $4,000 for the undergraduate and $5,000 for the graduate participants.

Applications are invited from CGU students and from all the Claremont Colleges junior year and mathematically advanced sophomore Math majors. The research experience gained during these summer projects might be continued into a senior or doctoral thesis.
